I have a B.S. degree in Environmental Science specializing in Biology. Following graduating college and getting married, I started an environmental consulting practice that I ran for 15 years. I recently sold the company to be able to commit more time to growing our rescue. There is such a demand for animals in need due to displacement from land development and injuries from vehicles. Rain or shine, sick or feeling good, we are here feeding and making sure all the animals on our property have what they need.
Since I was a child, I have been drawn to rescuing animals. My mom owned a business on the ocean where I would always find baby pigeons that had fallen out of their nests. This was my start to getting experience taking care of wildlife. I raised and set free numerous pigeons as a kid and also swam out into the ocean to rescue sea birds tied up in fishing line, injured or just water-logged and in need of a rest. During my college days when I was heading from one class to another, I heard a thump on the ground and looked and a baby squirrel had literally fallen at my feet. Experiences like this have happened to me all my life where I have been put in situations or where I notice something in need of help that others are amazed at how I noticed it or situations like a baby squirrel falling at my feet. Because of these experiences, I have always had a strong feeling and/or purpose that this is what I am meant to be doing with my life.
My daughter has been such a blessing and an asset to the rescue. She definitely has a huge heart and also shares my dream of helping as many animals as we can. She loves being home-schooled, especially since her breaks and recess include going out and playing with animals at our sanctuary. Her dream is to see our animal rescue grow into something bigger where we are able to take care and help more animals in need and one day take over the rescue.
